Author Linda Harris Sittig will greet readers and sign copies of her newest book, B-52 DOWN! You can bring your own copy or she will have copies to purchase there. The library will be doing a drawing to give out copies of the book as well.
B-52 DOWN! Recounts not only the facts but the human drama that surrounded the tragic event. Over 30 local residents involved with the crash were interviewed and acknowledged in this book.
The B-52 bomber, BUZZ ONE FOUR, was a strategic air weapon in the Cold War era of the United States. Needing repairs in Spain, its crew flies back to Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts to return stateside. Another 5-man team from Turner Air Base in Georgia picks up BUZZ ONE FOUR to return to its home base for the repairs. But on the 12:30 am trip, the crew flies into an unexpected blizzard that disables the plane, and the men must eject from 30,000 feet into the storm. They each land miles away from each other in the rugged mountains of Garrett County as the blizzard continues to rage. While families wait for news, 1000 volunteers comb an area of 53,000 acres hoping to find survivors.
