Shape your library’s future by sharing your ideas for programs, collections, and spaces you’d love to see in the restored Westernport Library.

Your voice matters! Whether you’re a regular visitor or have never stepped inside, we want your feedback to help build a library for the whole community.

Help us reimagine Westernport Library. Take part in the conversation through our community meeting or survey and let us know what would make the library meaningful for you.

Allegany County Library System is inviting the residents of the Westernport Library service area to help shape the future of their library as it prepares to reopen

The Westernport Library Town Hall will be held on October 22, 2025 from 6pm-8pm at the Bruce Outreach Center.  The Town Hall will consist of a facilitated conversation and Q&A to gather ideas directly from the community.  “We especially want to hear from members of the community who do not currently use the library so that we can understand how we can create a library that meets the needs of the area and builds usage for the success of the branch into the future,” says Interim Executive Director, Lisa McKenney.  Those interested in attending may register on the library’s event calendar so library staff can prepare the room and equipment to accommodate the expected attendance.

The library will also be distributing both a paper and online surveys to those who cannot attend the in-person Town Hall.  Attendees and respondents will be entered into a drawing to win one of four $50 local gift cards.

To encourage as many participants as possible, the Library is offering the following ways to provide feedback:

  • Online survey: bit.ly/ACLSWestLibSurvey
  • Paper surveys: Available after October 1 at Westernport and George’s Creek Town Halls, the Westernport Pop-up Libraries, and the George’s Creek Library. A full list of pickup locations is available at alleganycountylibrary.info/westlibsurvey/.
  • Return options: Surveys may be returned to the Westernport Library book drop, the Westernport Pop-up Library, or any ACLS branch. Please note that privacy cannot be guaranteed if surveys are not returned directly to the library; we cannot ensure confidentiality if they are collected by third parties, including volunteer groups.
  • Phone interview: Residents can schedule a call with library staff to provide feedback at 301-777-1200 ext. 1016.

Your input will directly influence the design, services, and programs offered at the Westernport Library, ensuring it meets the needs of the entire community. Whether you attend the Town Hall, complete a survey, or participate by phone, your voice matters. Join us in shaping a vibrant, welcoming library that will serve Westernport for years to come.
