Allegany County Day of Civility

The Allegany County chapter of Choose Civility will celebrate the county’s fourth annual Day of Civility on Thursday, April 7. The Allegany County chapter of Choose Civility was initiated by the Allegany County Library System, the Women’s Action Coalition of Greater Allegany County, and the 2018 class of Leadership Allegany. Choose Civility: Allegany County is a community-wide initiative to position the county as a model of civility by promoting civil conversations and kindness toward others.

The Day of Civility Schedule:

Food for Fines

11:00 AM – 6:00 PM – Food for Fines

Allegany County Library System – All Libraries (LaVale closed for renovation)

On Thursday, April 8th, all branches of the library will accept non-perishable food donations in exchange for library fines. Each donated item will reduce the patron’s library fines by $1.00, up to a maximum of $15.00 per person. Food donations should be within their expiration date, undamaged, and unopened.

Allegany College of Maryland Student Center?

An interactive display in the ACM College Center facilitated by Academic Development and hosted by the ACM Peace Club, Student Government Association, Human Service Club, and NAACP Club. Participate in a silent dialogue that explores acts of prejudice. Offer words of encouragement and support to others.

Chalk It Up to Civility: A Community Collaboration

April 7, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Allegany County Library System

People of all ages are welcome to do some “chalking!” Draw and write inspiring messages, words of encouragement and kindness in the designated areas at the library or take your chalk home to create an inspiring message for your family and neighbors! Take a photo of your chalk drawing and share it with us using the hashtag, #ChalkItUpToCivility.

The goal of Chalk It Up to Civility is to provide an opportunity for a collaborative community conversation in spite of difference, develop consensus in the place of division, and create connectedness in our community.

Social Media Civility: Influencing Community and Strategy Online and on the Ground
