Cumberland native author Mark Haselberger will be presenting some background and excerpts of "Follow the Colors," which, is an extensive work of non-fiction, and a ground-breaking history of the men who served in the Union Army during the Civil War (1861 to 1865) in the regiments from Monroe County, Ohio, as well as many of the regiments from West Virginia. These regiments served extensively in the Cumberland area all through the Civil War and were involved in the battles and skirmishes that occurred in and around the city as well as throughout western Maryland and northern West Virginia.

This is an opportunity for the present generation of to discover the nature of what their forbearers encountered during their Civil War service; what they endured, their trials, tribulations and an outlining of their stories, adventures and travels from when they left their homes in Ohio and West Virginia and trekked as far away as Georgia and back.

The author has been a military historian with an emphasis on the Civil War since he was youngster in the early 1950's. He has spent many years researching this particular subject, beginning in 1971. Following breaks for raising a family and employment at the Post Office, he began the manuscript in earnest during 2016. The publication is now available as a 2 volume set and those interested in discovering what their ancestors bravely lived through are encouraged to come to the presentation.

 

Books will be for sale at the event and are a two volume set priced at $90. Author will take cash or checks.
