An Engaging Book Discussion on "Hill Women: Finding Family and a Way Forward in the Appalachian Mountains" by Cassie Chambers. In conjunction with the recent Appalachian Festival, Cassie Chambers offered an insightful virtual presentation into the lives of Appalachian women. These women confront challenges like domestic violence, the opioid crisis, and a continually dividing world. Yet, many of them stand as pillars of their communities, keeping their towns united even when the system lets them down. Chambers melds their narratives with her personal journey to debunk the "hillbilly" stereotype, shedding light on a region where the impoverished, particularly women, can pioneer its future.
Excitingly, Cassie Chambers will be present for a segment of the book discussion, offering participants a rare opportunity to engage directly with the author.
After overcoming poverty to secure two Ivy League qualifications, this Appalachian lawyer crafts a heartwarming homage to the formidable "hill women" who nurtured and motivated her. Their principles, Chambers argues, hold the key to revitalizing a region in need.
