Spend the evening discovering the impact of women on Edgar Allan Poe’s legacy! We will explore how female voices have intricately woven themselves into the narrative of Poe's literary heritage, shaping his perception and impact on culture today.


Based on the literary criticism, Poe and Women: Recognition and Revision, one of the book's editors, Dr. Amy Branam Armiento, will lead the discussion. She will cover diverse literary aspects, such as female contemporaries' accounts of Poe, women's scholarly efforts in shaping his reputation, and the role of adaptations in redefining gender constructs inspired by his work.

About the Presenter 

Any search for Dr. Amy Branam Armiento would reveal an impressive array of achievements, awards, community engagements, committee memberships, and written works. She has also served as a distinguished speaker at conferences and events. It is easy to tell she possesses a genuine passion for imparting her wealth of knowledge and encouraging educational pursuits.  

Dr. Amy Branam Armiento is a Professor of English at Frostburg State University teaching a variety of courses including romanticism, realism and naturalism, women and literature, and literary theory. In Frostburg State University's 40-year history of Faculty Achievement Awards, Dr. Armiento has achieved being the first woman to be honored across all three categories: Academic Achievement, Teaching, and Service.

She serves on the executive committee of the Poe Studies Association, was a consultant for PBS’s Edgar Allan Poe: Buried Alive, and has published Gale Researcher Guides on Romanticism and the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. She has established herself as a globally-recognized authority in the realm of Edgar Allan Poe studies.
