Purpose of Meeting

The Geasey Lecture is held during the Annual Field Session of the Archeological Society of Maryland (ASM). This year, the ASM is partnering with the Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) and the National Park Service (NPS) to hold excavations at Site 18AG9 from May 31-June 10. 18AG9 sits within C&O Canal National Historical Park and is widely beleived to be the 18th-century home of Colonel Thomas Cresap. This lecture (which is free and open to the public) will present both the historical context on Thomas Cresap (his life an times) and will describe remote sensing work and archaeological excavation to-date that suggests his home and fort at Oldtown have been found.
