Event Details

The Allegany County Library System is very excited to be planning a series of book discussions to continue to engage our community in conversations about race in America.  As a follow-up to Dr. Ibram X. Kendi’s live discussion on How to Be Antiracist, we invite you to join us for a number of conversations centered around themes from Dr. Kendi’s other award winning book, Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America.

Beginning on September 1, discussions will be held every other week through the end of October, totaling five events.  Two hosts from the library will be joined by a co-host from the Allegany County Chapter of the NAACP to facilitate discussion around the week’s chosen theme.

Themed discussions include:

September 1: Cotton Mather

September 15: Thomas Jefferson

September 29: William Lloyd Garrison

October 13: W.E.B. Dubois

October 27: Angela Davis

Register for the book discussions below, a link to the Zoom meeting will be sent 24 hours before the book discussion event.  This event will be recorded and made available to be viewed at a later time for anyone unable to join the live event.  The recording feature for others is disabled so that no one else will be able to record this session through Zoom. No recording by other means is permitted.

It is important that we develop opportunities to have open dialogue to discuss race within the community to inspire understanding and community healing.  The Allegany County Library System is committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
